How did we get here?
When I tell people that Robert and I are pursuing adoption one of the first things people ask is "but can you have a baby?" and if they aren't brave enough to ask... I know they are thinking it. There is still such a stigma about adoption and when people hear that someone is adopting they assume that it must have been their second choice, back up plan, or last resort if you will. And, don't get me wrong, there are many people who pursue adoption after attempting to have biological children and their journeys are just as beautiful. Because however Motherhood comes to you, it's a miracle.
But, to answer their question... for us, adoption is our first choice. Maybe some people do not understand that, and that is okay, they don't have to. But, those who have ever felt called to do something will understand. Adoption is our calling. While we may pursue parenthood in other ways in the future, this is our journey right now.
So, how did we get here? Early on in our relationship, Robert and I started talking about how we wanted our story to look. We both knew that we wanted our story to revolve around parenthood. That is when we started discussing adoption and foster care. After talking with my Uncles who have been both foster parents and adopted, LOTS and LOTS of research, talking to other families who have adopted that I follow through blogs, and prayer we decided our story would start here: International Adoption.
Then we saw him. And we knew that this is exactly why we were called to adopt. This little boy was the reason that we would work tirelessly on paperwork, travel across the world and embark on this extremely difficult but incredible journey.
Because HE. IS. WORTHY.
