It Takes a Village

I am here to share some BIG things and some updates...

First off, now that I have become a little more familiar with this whole blog thing, I was able to figure out how to make a subscribe button. You can find that in the top right corner. For those of you who do not use social media this is a way for you to still be notified when I make a post.

Also, per requests, I added our Family Sponsorship Page that is through Reece's Rainbow on that side bar. This is for people who would like to make tax deductible donations. This money will become available to use when we get our travel dates!

Now, speaking of donations, I want to talk a little bit about fundraising. Fundraising is HARD. I don't just mean all the hours, the work, or the 'advertising'... I am talking about asking for help. This is the most uncomfortable part of this journey for me. It is hard for me to ask our friends and families to help support our journey financially. But, I know that our son has experienced way more discomfort throughout his short life, so I have continued to push through mine in order to give him the life he deserves.

To those of you who have donated, bought t-shirts, order back-to-school gifts, or shared our fundraisers... I will never have the words to give you the thanks that you deserve. But, I can say that when our journey is over, I will work hard to pay it forward like the incredible, Alison, has done for us. Everyone, please know I will always tell our son about the amazing Village that worked to bring him home.

Our Guardian Angels (Alison & Asher)

We are about 4 months out from traveling to meet D which means we are going to be working SUPER hard the next few months to get the funds we need so we do not have to delay our travel. With that being said, we have three HUGE fundraisers in the works, in addition to the smaller ongoing fundraisers we have (shirts, hats, back to school).

I created a crowdfunding page on GoFundMe to help us cover some of the upfront costs that have been pouring in. After 19 days of our page remaining at $0, I prayed about how to make our need more manageable and I came across a fundraiser called 10:10:1. This is 10 days, $10, 1 baby... our goal for donations is $10, 000 and we will cover the rest through fundraising and our personal savings. This means that we need 1000 people to donate $10 to reach our goal.

Both our incredible friends and kind strangers have worked over the past three days to raise us $1,425!! This is going to be a HUGE help. Also, we have had a lot of people share our page which is just as helpful. We still have quite a bit to go but I know that God will continue to create miracles on D's behalf. If each person who reads this blog donated $10 and/or shared our GoFundMe, we would be several thousand dollars closer to our goal. I know many of you already have... and again, THANK YOU!

Next up, we are going to have a BIG garage/yard sale. We have been trying to find the right time to do this when life slows down a bit, but let's face it, from here on out life is never going to slow down. So, we picked a date and here we go:

Between now and the sale, we are going to be accepting donations from locals of gently used items for our yard sale. All donations from this sale will go towards our Adoption fund to bring D home! So, if you are in the area, start going through your closets, basement, garage and clear out all that stuff you don't use anymore... we will gladly take it off your hands.

If you are interested in donating, please contact Robert (text) @ 815-212-4149 to arrange pick up or drop off!

In my last post, I mentioned that we would be having a spaghetti dinner fundraiser. Well, I have since locked in some more details and we are ready to share that event with you. This will be held within our community and you can start getting your tickets now!

Mark your calendars and come join us for a wonderful night filled with lots of love. There will be dinner, raffles, and good company! EVERYONE is welcome, bring ALL your friends and family!!!

Email me @ kmckay1020@gmail.com for tickets!

XOXO
