A Family for Christmas
I first came across Reece’s Rainbow long before we were
planning to adopt, I was in college for Special Education and I would sit and
delay homework by researching adoption for hours. Eventually I came across a
blog called ‘Finding Baby Brother’ and it was created by a family completing
their second adoption from Ukraine to bring home their little boy. This would
also be their third child with Down Syndrome. If you follow the
adoption or Down Syndrome community, then you know just how truly inspiring the
Cox Family is. They have been an inspiration to so many and are the reason that
many children have found their families.
Since we started the adoption journey, I have been able to
reach out to this amazing Mama on several occasions and she has given me
strength, support, and encouragement each step of the way. I have said it many
times but this community we have joined is so amazing. So, so amazing.
It has been crucial to have this community of people who
understand what we are experiencing. This journey is not for the faint of heart
and it is unlike anything else so it can be difficult for people who have not
walked it to understand. Thankfully we’ve had other parents who have been in
our shoes to support us during this holiday season because they know just how
hard it is to enjoy with your child across the world.
It continues to be very difficult to get into the spirit. I
normally love giving gifts to family and friends but this year I have not even
started thinking about that. Gifts don’t seem to matter this year, to give or
receive, because the greatest gift would be having our daughter here with us.
The Cox family made a video several years ago, about their
Daughter’s first Christmas home with her family and the song in the video says,
“Of all that I could ask for, there’s just one thing I need, All I really want
for Christmas is a family.” That song has always resonated with me.
The greatest gift that our daughter could receive is a
Family for Christmas. Such a blessing it will be when she does not have to
spend Christmas alone in an orphanage without knowing the love of a family. And
while we will not be able to have Baby S here with us for Christmas this year,
you can help us get closer to bringing her out of an orphanage and into her
family.
Once again, The Cox Family, is supporting us by sharing one
